Exceptional Performers!

Exceptional Performers! specialises in promoting and facilitating personal and business performance through full employee engagement using a structured and results oriented framework with a demonstrable return on coaching investment.

I founded Exceptional Performers!TM in August 2005 following an initial year working as a coach and facilitator with a range of clients including a leading railway engineering consultancy based in London for whom I co-designed and facilitated a 2 day residential team building workshop.  During late 2005 and 2006 I developed and delivered a series of open seminars on the subject of energy management and full engagement for performance.  Latterly I have developed the concepts further for delivery in a corporate environment, which we are currently rolling out to businesses in the southeast.

Personally speaking...I was born in Bedfordshire, spent the first 6 years of my life across the border in Buckinghamshire, grew-up in The Lake District, where my family still live, came to Brighton in 1986 to study Civil Engineering at Brighton Polytechnic, I fell in love (with the town (sorry city!) and Jane, my wife) and stayed!  I now share my beautiful and fantastic wife, Jane with my beautiful and equally fantastic son George who keep me on the straight and narrow while tolerating the occasional diversion as I indulge my passion for health and fitness and personal development!

Twin passionsI am passionate about facilitating individuals and groups to reach their full potential, to become fully engaged whether at work, rest or play.  I am also passionate about business and organisations as drivers for wealth creation, transformation and change in the world.  In Exceptional Performers!TM I have combined these twin passions to help individuals, businesses and organisations reach new levels of performance.  I believe that fully engaged indivduals whose personal values and vision are aligned with those of their business or organisation are two of the biggest factors, along with culture and leadership, in determining the success or otherwise of any enterprise.

Before Exceptional Performers...I spent 15 years as a civil engineering consultant and project manager in the railway sector, initially with London Underground Limited (LUL) and then Kennedy and Donkin Limited which after changing hands several times became Parsons Brinckerhoff Ltd.  I got to work, often at senior level, on some incredibly challenging and exciting projects with major clients in the rail and transportation sector including Network Rail, London Underground Ltd, Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive, Crossrail and numerous major contractors and consultants.

The best day of my lifeMy goal for 14 years had been to become the MD of a major engineering consultancy until one day I realised that I did not really want that at all...I was stressed, overweight and unhappy.  So when I was diagnosed with cancer in 2003 I shared Lance Armstrong's sentiments that it was actually the best day of my life.  I saw it as an opportunity to step back and evaluate what I wanted to do with the rest of my life (and at the point of diagnosis, before I met my oncologist, I was not very sure how long that would be!).  My ongoing journey to optimum health, wealth and happiness started that day August 19th 2003.

Health and wellbeing mattersMy pursuit of optimum health and wellbeing and to repair the damage inflicted by the chemotherapy led me to work with a personal trainer and a nutritionist.  Highly recommended, initially so you learn how to exercise and eat for maximum benefit and later for the accountability to keep you on track.  Studies have shown that if you exercise regularly for 6 months you will do it for the rest of your life, even if you fall off the waggon you will come back to it.  And so it was for me.  Physical exercise and a predominantly vegetarian diet are now central to my life.

My research taught me that while physical health is the foundation of exceptional performance we need also to attend to our emotional, mental and spiritual health which led me to the wellness industry, widely acknowledged as the fastest growing industry in the world - set to be the next trillion dollar industry.  This in turn led me to a  Japanese research and wellness technology company who can rightly claim to be the only Total Wellness company in the world.
