About Business

Tifton, the county seat of Tift County, incorporated as a city on December 29, 1890. The city was originally named Lena for the daughter of the sawmill owner, Henry Tift. One day, however, a worker placed a sign reading "Tifton," and the name stuck. Tifton is home to the Georgia Museum of Agriculture and Historic Village, a place to explore living history on a traditional 1870s farm community and an 1890s progressive farmstead. Costumed interpreters share stories of the past and recreate for visitors the lifestyles of these times.
