Outline Stitch

The Outline stitch is used to tidy up a design or shape, usually as the final line of a embroidery piece. It can be quite delicate or bold depending on the thread you use, and it works well for outlines of curves and waves, as well as little circles.

You can also use this stitch for text, although it can be difficult to get it to look good when the lines are 1mm wide or narrower, especially with a sans-serif font. It’s a good idea to choose the outline stitch for text only if you know it will work, and then use a solid font instead of a text shadow.

The tracing function will produce paths with many Bezier nodes, so it is important to simplify the path as much as possible (Ctrl+L) to reduce the number of points to make it easier to embroider the design. This can be done using the ‘Reshape’ tool.
