The statistics for asbestos-related diseases found in veterans that came in contact with asbestos on Navy ships is rather high. It has been proven that former members of the military, most notably U.S. Navy servicemen, are amongst those most devastated by a diagnosis of mesothelioma. Statistics show that approximately 30 percent of the cases for mesothelioma come from veterans. Those veterans serving during the 1940s to the 1970s were unfortunate victims of peak asbestos use. Navy sailors make up about 50% of all veterans afflicted with mesothelioma.
