Zebulon, the seat of Pike County, incorporated on November 25, 1825. The city and county remember Zebulon M. Pike, a hero of the War of 1812, explorer of the Louisiana Territory and discoverer of Pike's Peak in Colorado. The Pike County courthouse in Zebulon, built in 1895, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Other locally-recognized historic structures in the downtown area include the Franklin House, Redding House, Baptist Cemetery, Old Zebulon Depot and Banks House.
