How to Effortlessly Install and Conceal LED Strip Lights
If you have kids at home, I bet they’ve been pestering you to put up LED strip lights in their room. It’s the latest trend, after all. Aiden, for instance, insisted on having LED lights for his bedroom makeover.
I didn’t mind installing them, but I wanted the room to have a more polished look instead of just sticking LED lights to the ceiling. Luckily, with a few simple steps, you can easily install LED strip lights in any room and cleverly hide them using cove moulding around the perimeter. Keep reading to find out how!
What Exactly are LED Strip Lights?
LED strip lights are essentially flexible circuit boards adorned with LEDs (light-emitting diodes) that you can place almost anywhere in various colors and brightness levels.
These thin, bendable circuit boards can be flexed up to 90 degrees and conveniently attached with adhesive backing. You also have complete freedom in designing, as you can cut these strips every few inches if necessary.

Moreover, LED strip lights are highly affordable; we bought ours for less than $20. From captivating accent lighting behind TVs, along walls or ceilings, above or under cabinets, these powerful little strips are an excellent way to illuminate your home.
Concealing LED Strip Lights with Moulding
To begin, we gave the walls and ceiling a fresh coat of paint. For Aiden’s room, we wanted to create a moody and dramatic ambiance, so we painted the ceiling black and extended that color 12″ down the wall. This marked the level at which we would install the cove moulding to conceal the best led light strips.
Next, we used a stud finder to locate the studs in the wall and placed a piece of painter’s tape at each stud’s position. We measured each wall and cut the cove moulding with a miter saw, ensuring that we cut a 45° angle at each end.
Since our wall corners weren’t perfectly square, we found that a 44° angle resulted in a better fitting seam. We then dry-fitted the moulding and attached it to the studs using a brad nailer. Once all the cove moulding was in place, we caulked, puttied, and painted it to complete the look.
Installing LED Strip Lights
After the paint had cured, we proceeded to install the LED strip lights. This is an incredibly simple task that takes only about 15 minutes. All you need are a pair of scissors. First, determine where you want to plug in the LED strip lights and hide the cord.
We chose a spot near the window, as we planned to hang curtains just outside the window frame, effectively concealing the plug and light strip running up the wall.
From the outlet, we positioned the LED strip light along the wall, following the edge of the moulding surrounding the window.

To attach the light strip to the wall, peel off the adhesive strip’s protective covering and lightly press it against the wall. You can easily reposition the strip before fully sealing it by pressing firmly. If you ever need to remove the strip lights, simply heat up the strip with a hairdryer, and it will come off easily.
When reaching the cove moulding, fold the light strip over the moulding’s flat edge and continue running it along the moulding. To navigate corners, fold the strip and continue attaching it to the moulding.
To make a cut for the final section, locate the area between the two arrows and trim the strip with all-purpose scissors. Finally, adhere the last strip to the moulding.
Enjoy Your Newly Illuminated Space!
As you can see, when the LED strip lights are switched off, they are completely hidden. You have the option to control the lights either with the remote control or via an app.
The app offers a vast array of color options, allowing you to choose from hundreds of hues, and even sync the lights to music. You can also adjust the brightness of the LED lights. Installing LED strip lights is an excellent way to add a touch of interest and personality to any room.
With just a few simple steps, you can easily conceal the strip lighting, ensuring a neat and tidy appearance. So, if you’re looking to give a room in your home a fun upgrade, LED strip lights are the perfect solution! Ready to bring a dazzling new look to your space? Give it a try!
