Aviator jacket

A man or woman's closet must still include an aviator jacket, the epitome of timeless and classic fashion. This clothing was originally designed to protect Air Force personnel from the chill in the cockpit. They decide to use leather as their main material for this reason. In addition, leather's timeless classic design makes it possible to provide better insulation at a lower cost. But as technology advanced, altitude rose, and sheepskin replaced the lining to more effectively trap interior heat.

The US Army Aviation Clothing Board created the first "flight jackets," as we now refer to them, in 1917 to keep World War I pilots toasty in the uninsulated, open-air cockpits of early fighter aircraft.
